Psychiatric Technician
POSITION SUMMARY: The Psychiatric Technician will have some training or experience in caring for behavioral health patients. The psychiatric tech must possess a high school diploma and must have BHP training or a minimum of 2 years psych tech experience. MOAB training to include instructor certification (within 90 days of hire)The Psychiatric Technician will be given the opportunity to explore a variety of patient care experiences, including co-facilitating treatment activities, understanding the concept of milieu and working within an inter-disciplinary team. As the Psychiatric Technician gains experience, he/she will be given increased responsibilities in providing patient care. Performs any duties and/or responsibilities assigned by Manager or Supervisor for which qualified.
MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED: Qualified applicant must be a High School Graduate with good communication skills. Must have a willingness and ability to function as part of an interdisciplinary treatment team. Completes Healthstream Mandatory Education on a yearly basis. Attends all mandatory safety related education programs. Follows safety procedures to prevent injury to self and others. Carries assigned keys and wears hospital ID badge at all times. Refrains from the abuse of chemicals. Must have or obtain BHP training (within 6 months of hire) or a minimum of 2 years psych tech experience. MOAB training to include instructor certification (within 90 days of hire)
OTHER SKILLS REQUIRED: Must possess good oral and written communication skills in the English language. Must have excellent communication skills; patient centered care philosophy; strong team player. Must possess good computer skills necessary for charting.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Visual acuity, color vision, hearing acuity, and tactile sensation are necessary to respond to patient response and requests. The ability to read and speak English, to communicate and document information. Must possess the manual dexterity and a degree of body strength and flexibility to respond to aggressive patient behavior. The ability to reach and stretch intermittently. Time may be spent sitting at a computer, collaborating with other healthcare team members. Standing and walking comprises some of the workday.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Carries out daily patient assignment and assists other staff members as needed. Organizes work to finish on own 90% of the time.
